Bacteriostatic water is sterile water for injection that contains a preservative, commonly benzyl alcohol, and is packaged for repeated withdrawals under its labelled conditions.

In calculation records it appears as a diluent name beside the measured millilitre volume. The preservative distinguishes it from plain sterile water. The exact wording on a label or source should be preserved because similar-looking terms can carry different technical meanings. A clean record separates identity, mass, volume, concentration, device calibration, dates and source instead of compressing them into one ambiguous note.

A log may record “bacteriostatic water, 2 mL” so the concentration calculation can be reconstructed later.

Where the term enters a calculation
